Frequency-selective Optimization of Periodic Gate Control Signals in DC/DC Converters for EMI-reduction

High-frequency switching of power transistors in electronic systems can cause electromagnetic emissions. Simple approaches for reducing high-frequency disturbances, such as inserting an additional gate resistor, lead to increased losses. This makes achieving both compatibility and efficiency difficult. Active drivers help find a trade-off between these two. Typically, only narrow-band disturbances must be reduced. Accordingly, target signal with spectrum notched at some frequencies defined. The reached by target-signal-oriented control the transistor's gate. leads steeper slopes, that losses are less increased. Generating arbitrary signals is impossible. transistor exhibits physical limitations. A constraint satisfaction problem solved, drive optimized applying residual Newton's method. proposed optimization process frequency domain based on circuit simulation method named “harmonic balance”.
